Valentine’s day is the perfect occasion to serve something sweet to your sweetheart.
I love occasions that allow me to pamper my loved ones with rich and sweet treats, but I always aim to find the right balance between indulgence and nutrition. Food must always be delicious and free-from my son’s allergens, but it’s equally important that my family eats heart healthy food made with whole ingredients that are low in fat and free from preservatives and artificial colors.
Since we discovered them a few months ago, perfectly free™ non-dairy frozen bites have become my family’s favorite sweet indulgence. They are made with a creamy vanilla core, and enrobed by a velvety layer of real cherry and blueberry, rich cocoa or salted caramel. They are made in a dedicated facility that is free-from gluten and the top 8 allergens, made with non-GMO ingredients and free-from artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. Each bite is less than 35 calories with less than 1g of fat, making them an ideal heart healthy snack.
Here are a couple of easy to make, perfectly free™ heart healthy Valentine’s Day desserts that your entire family will love.
Heart Shaped Fruit Salad
Delicious and nutritious! Get the best of both worlds this Valentine’s Day by serving a heart-healthy fresh fruit salad beside a selection of perfectly free™ frozen bites. Inspire romance and get creative with your paring knife and cookie cutters to make heart shaped fruits.
Coconut and Strawberry Shortcake Parfait
Every layer in this dessert is a delicious flavor burst, and can be made with many heart healthy options. The crowning layer of this parfait is a perfectly free™ cocoa and vanilla frozen bite.
Start with a base layer of unsweetened coconut yogurt mixed with a drop of vanilla extract and lightly sweetened with maple syrup or honey.
Follow with a crunchy cake layer that can be made with allergy-friendly cereal or oats mixed with seeds and crumbled gluten-free shortbread cookies.
Blanket with a layer of sliced fresh strawberries and top with a creamy layer of coconut whipped cream. Many grocery stores carry coconut whipped cream, but you can make your own by refrigerating a can of full fat coconut milk for at least 4 hours and disposing the coconut water. Whisk the leftover coconut cream with a cup of powdered sugar until peaks form.
Repeat the layers as many times as your dessert cup allows you to. Garnish with dairy-free chocolate chips, and crown this decadent dessert with a perfectly free™ cocoa and vanilla frozen bite. Make sure to make extra, because everyone will be asking for seconds!
This Valentine’s Day I plan to eat well and #liveperfectlyfree with my loved ones. I wish the same to you and your family!
